The Coroners Court of Queensland (CCQ) is part of the wider Queensland Courts Service, under the Justice Services division of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
The CCQ investigates over 6,000 deaths each year. Once a death is reported, the process of investigating the circumstances of the death to determine what happened commences. This may involve an autopsy or some form of post mortem examination, and in some cases, an inquest.
